From these considerations several conclusions which have importance for the logic problematic have emerged. First, for Heidegger, the concept does not have primacy for Dasein. There is a pre-conceptual, pre-logical (pre-ontological) grasp of Being which is the foundation upon which any further knowledge must be built. Secondly, Being is not determined from thought and the proposition125 since there is a pre-predicative grasp of truth which is even more fundamental.126 The assertion or proposition which is the keystone of traditional logic may be one seat of truth127 but it is certainly not the only one, or even the primary one. The proposition then, from the standpoint of ontological priority is, strictly speaking, derivative.128 Thirdly, Dasein's comprehension of Being is not the product of its busy activity as a knowing subject. Rather, Being is grasped by a thankful gesture of acceptance129 and carefully guarded.130 Fourthly, as a corollary of this, logic is not the first rule of thought;131 thought is ruled, rather, by its relationship to the command (Geheiss) of Being.132
Is thinking of this sort logical? No, surely not, if by the word "logical" we remain within the logico-metaphysical tradition dominant since Plato. Is it "non-rational"? Yes, again if we remain in this tradition. This is, as we shall see, not at all to say that it is "irrational".133
